I don’t Regret Trying

This week I spent more than an entire work day on a long shot.

Reviewing documents, writing emails, phone calls with city council members- My task list fell aside while I tried to encourage council members to allow this city-owned affordable housing site to accept proposals for housing that is not age-restricted to only seniors. Out of 355 Affordable Rentals in our city, 331 are restricted for only seniors, even though less than a third of low-income renters in the city are elderly.

Every time I thought, “I’m wasting my time,” another voice said, “If you could make a life-altering difference for even one person, wouldn’t you do everything you could?”

After all my work, the City still decided against my request. But I don’t regret trying.
