About carla

Homework Club often serves as an entrance point to other Unidos programs for our elementary kids, creating opportunities for growth and connection. Carla is a shining example of this transformation.

When she first joined Homework Club, she was seeking help with her English homework, as she only speaks Spanish. A very shy student, she mostly kept to herself. Since then, Carla has blossomed. She now eagerly participates in our library trips, art classes, and Chef’s Club.

During a recent art class, students were asked to write and illustrate a story, either fiction or non-fiction. Carla chose to write about her experience at Casa Unidos, focusing on a specific volunteer who helped her every week with translating her homework.

It beautifully illustrated how much she has grown and how important the support from Unidos has been in her life.

From a shy girl struggling with English to a confident student actively engaging in multiple activities, Carla’s journey is a testament to the impact of compassion and community. She has truly flourished in her short time with Unidos and she is excited for Homework Club to return at the beginning of this upcoming school year!
