Casa Unidos was Filled with Hope
Over the course of last week I was making what seem like endless phone calls, and I am still working on some more this week 😀. This was in preparation for our first Kaiser enrollment in partnership with CHIOC. We are determined to help all of our low-income neighbors who didn’t qualify for Medi-Cal to apply for this amazing, new program!
This Saturday all that work finally paid off. It was definitely a busy Saturday for sure. Some of the residents that came in had been denied Medi-Cal because they went over the income level by a couple of dollars, so for them, paying for insurance seemed impossible. While on the many phone calls they all expressed their gratitude to Unidos for taking the time to bring this resource to the community, something that they would not have known about if not for us.
Some of the people I spoke with have health problems that they have not been able to address because of the lack of health insurance, so they were grateful for this opportunity. Honestly this past Saturday Casa Unidos was filled with hope. Hope that for some of them was gone when they received that denial letter from Medi-Cal. I am happy to say that some of that hope was restored this Saturday as they very eagerly sat down for their appointment. It was very rewarding seeing all those happy faces when they were leaving Casa Unidos.
