She did it by herself, but with some guidance.

I ran into a neighbor today who asked me if I could help her set up an appointment with the Mexican consulate to renew her identity document. I was happy to help, and I told her that there is now an easier way to schedule an appointment.

First, I asked her to send a text to the appointment system through What’s App. What I thought would only take me a few minutes took me a bit more than that because:

1. She did not have the app

2. Did not know her email address (she thought she needed to go to her phone provider to help her retrieve it)

3. Her phone screen protector was cracked and it made the phone’s display jump from one tab to another .

Finally I walked her through everything making sure she was the one doing it and only jumped in when she got lost. She really knew more than what she thought, and she was able to schedule an appointment for today!

It was great to see her doing it all by her self with some guidance. This was a great because she will be able to share what she learned with her neighbors and feel inspired to learn new things.
